About the Park

A historic Paducah ballpark

Brooks Stadium was built in 1948 and 1949 and named for J. Polk Brooks. Brooks owned the Paducah-based Brooks Bus Line. He served as the first president of the Paducah Baseball Association and led the campaign to build a permanent home for the Chiefs.

In his daughter Carol Brooks's words, "He thought the stadium would really mean something to the city. Daddy really cared for the community."

The City of Paducah lists the venue as a 3,000-capacity facility with broadcast-ready lighting, a press box, concessions, restrooms, paved parking, and free Wi-Fi. The Brooks Stadium Commission, chaired by Jay Smith, oversees public use of the facility. Parking is always free.

Milestones

A stadium with a story

  1. May 8, 1949

    Brooks Stadium opens for play. General admission goes for $0.65 and a box seat runs $1.15. The park is one of the oldest baseball venues still in use in Kentucky.

  2. 1957

    After the original Chiefs disband, the stadium is sold to the City of Paducah for $25,000. The city still owns the park today.

  3. 1980s

    Dr. Frank "Doc" Hideg leads a local campaign to save the park after it is condemned. The field that hosts Chiefs games today is named in his honor.

  4. May 17, 2008

    The Frontier League's Southern Illinois Miners and Evansville Otters play an exhibition at Brooks. It is the first professional baseball game at the park since the original Chiefs left town.

  5. Today

    The park hosts Paducah Chiefs collegiate summer ball, Paducah Tilghman High School baseball, Ohio Valley Conference tournaments, TranSouth Athletic Conference college games, and amateur scholastic play throughout the year.
